The talk by City Health Epidemiologist Natacha Berkowitz was a great success. Thank you to all who joined.
Entitled “Waiting for the Jab: COVID 19 in South Africa“, Natacha took her audience through the timeline of the pandemic in South Africa to date. She effectively compared the first and second waves we have all experienced and showed how different geographical regions all showed a fairly similar pattern with more infections in the second phase. By highlighting the science behind the way the virus spread is monitored and what that means for a potential third wave Natacha left us all much better informed. The roll-out of the vaccinations has begun with health workers and medical professionals and more vaccination doses are on the way. Oh, and a strong third wave is by no means a certainty if all take a little extra care while we wait patiently for the jab.
