To be taken up in the Michelin firmament is arguably the culinary world’s highest honour. But to venture to France and to receive this accolade in Michelin territory – becoming South Africa’s first Michelin-star chef – is a rare feat.
‘Life is about creating and living experiences’
Join us in conversation with South Africa’s first Michelin-star chef, published author, artist and passionate photographer, Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen on 14 July 2020. Growing up in the heart of South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, Jan Hendrik developed a unique relationship with food, inspired by his mother and grandmother. This is where he refined a talent that would one day lead him to open a celebrated restaurant on the French Riviera, which is just the first of Jan’s restaurants. To top that he has award-winning cookbooks, recently released ‘JAN the JOURNAL volume 4’ lifestyle publications and a TV show, which captures Jan Hendrik’s journey to Michelin stardom. With the opening of JAN Innovation Studio in Cape Town in 2019 and the imminent launch of Klein JAN at Tswalu Kalahari, the JAN experience has taken its first steps on home turf.
Join us for a Bastille Day conversation with Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, co-hosted by former Chairperson Anet Pienaar-Vosloo. Funds raised will be donated to charities.
