Be the change you want to see in South Africa

Prepared by: Maureen Hargreaves

Lunch at the Table Bay on 23rd May, was voted by members attending as the best lunch this year!  We were delighted to welcome a large group from Citadel Investments as well as a larger than usual number of male guests.   Our speaker was former Springbok Rugby Captain Jean de Villiers who now heads the Philanthropy Division at Citadel Investment Services.   His talk was light-hearted and humorous with a serious vein running through it. He told us about how he started playing rugby at the age of 5,  the 17 years he played rugby with all the personal setbacks with injuries and broken bones and how he came to be associated with Citadel.  He referred to 1995 and the Springboks winning the World Cup and how rugby then united the nation.   South Africans are going through a difficult period and his message was to reach out and help fellow South Africans.    He was warmly thanked by Rebecca Harvie and presented with a gift.

We had our usual raffle for our charities with a number of extra prizes as well as a separate raffle for a beautiful cashmere shawl with fur trimmings.    Tickets for the shawl will still be sold at our next lunch and the draw will then take lace.

Service from the hotel was excellent and friendly and members enjoyed the the delicious chicken ballantine served by the hotel and the chocolate dessert.
